　　Emerging from the cartoon is a thought-provoking scenario where two men, a doctor and a patient, are discussing something concerning one leg of the patient. The patient, anxious and embarrassed, is pointing at his left leg which is way thinner than the other, explaining his symptom to the doctor. And the latter, shocked at the leg, is fixing his attention on the legs of the man, with one of them tagged as “culture” and the other “material”.

　　What the scene is purposely designed to convey is unmistakable: Cultural enrichment is of equal value as much as material prosperity. On account of the advancement of society and technology, vast and huge changes have taken place in the whole aspects of people from all walks of life. As a result, people in this modern society have been granted an access to an increasingly good number of opportunities to enjoy our material life. For example, the affluence of material life makes us break away from the problem of starving, so we can afford and experience more possibilities which were definitely unreachable in the past. Unfortunately, culture as an essential indicator of social development has been left far behind in the process of economic boom. There is no doubt that it is not the economy and technology that should be to blame. On the contrary, we are expected to shoulder the responsibility to take effective measures to resolve this terrible problem.

　　Based on what has been discussed above, the imbalance between material life and culture has been such a serious phenomenon that some practical actions are neededto be put into practice immediately. Of course, it is by no means a task which can be accomplished at one stroke, but a satisfactory result can be guaranteed through joint participation and work.

　　基于以上讨论，物质生活和文化的不平衡发展俨然已经成了一个很严重的社会现象，亟需采取具体行动来应对。当然，这也绝不是一项一蹴而就的工程，它需要我们所有人的共同参与和通力合作才能取得满意结果。
